Malacca Food Travels

Went on a food trip last year to Malacca. It is a place rich with history, malaysian national heritage and lots of yummy delights from various cultures such as Peranakan chinese, Hainanese and even portuguese-inspired cuisines. There are so many things to try and we only manage to try some.
Nadeje Mille Crepe Cake
My partner likes Nadeje Mille Crepe cake a lot. However, I find it a bit too creamy for my liking. If there are more mille crepe layers in the cake, it will be much more delicious.
Lao Di Fang
Lao Di Fang serves really good hainanese-styled chinese food. But because they are very renowned, the service is terrible. We waited for like 45-50 minutes for our first dish to arrive. My favourite dish is the Hainanese pork chop hor fun (2nd Lao Di Fang photo). The ketchup gravy is awesome. I don't know how they made it. It does not taste totally like ketchup. Very unique and delicious dish.
Chop Chung Wah Hainanese Chicken rice
There are a lot of chicken rice ball shops in Malacca, making it very hard for tourist to differentiate which ones are authentic. An easy observation could tell them apart: the ones with advertorials and endorsed by foreign celebrities are not selling the best chicken rice balls. Chop Chung Wah does not look like a restaurant from its external. However, long queues are seen outside the shop as early as 8-9am in the morning!!! Real chicken rice balls should have rice that are mashed like Malay Ketupats eaten together with satays.
Restoran Aunty Lee
One of the most popular peranakan restaurants in Malacca. Aunty Lee who is in her 70s, cooks all the dishes in her restaurant. No walk ins are entertained. To eat at Restoran Aunty Lee, you must call the place in advance to book a table and order your food!! Aunty Lee buys her cooking ingredients according to the number of reservations made.
When I go back to Malacca the next time I am definitely going to try Restoran Tong Sheng and Capitol Satay celup. Too few days in my food trip, too limited space in my stomach for extra meals.
